Job Description
The Press Brake Setup Technician is responsible for independently setting up press brake machines based on engineering drawings and production requirements. This role requires strong technical ability, precision, and a deep understanding of press brake tooling, programming, and fabrication processes. The technician must be able to interpret part drawings, determine the appropriate tooling (punches, dies, and back gauge settings), and create or modify CNC programs to ensure accurate, high-quality bends that meet specifications, using tools such as tape measures, squares, protractors, dial calipers, and height gages.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to define setup requirements and tooling needs.
- Select, install, and adjust punches, dies, and back gauges based on material specifications and bend tolerances.
- Create or modify CNC programs when required, ensuring accurate part production.
- Perform machine setup, adjust tonnage and bend parameters, and verify first-piece accuracy using precision tools.
- Document setup details, maintain tooling inventory, support operators, and follow all safety and housekeeping standards.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Experience: 3–4 years of press brake setup and operation in a metal fabrication or machining environment.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational fabrication training preferred.
- Blueprint Skills: Able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and fabrication specifications.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of bend allowances, tooling selection, forming methods, and CNC press brake programming.
- Inspection Skills: Proficient with precision measuring tools such as calipers, protractors, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent standing, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
